California orders 104 drug tests per year for some doctors
Published January 2010
Although a recent poll showed most Credentialing Resource Center Connection readers don’t screen practitioners for drug use, the state of California is screening practitioners 104 times a year, to be exact.
However, not all practitioners will be screened. Only practitioners put on probation by the state licensing board will be screened 104 times a year for the first year and at least 50 times a year thereafter, for an unspecified duration, according to a December 28 AMANews article. The tests are one way California is protecting the public from substance-abusing practitioners.
